New STARR blog
Hi fellow STARRS!
I had a great time getting to know everyone last week. I really enjoyed beginning our journey together and learning from all of you. You are a talented bunch and I learned so many ideas to take back to my second-graders.
Question for all of you English teachers: Do you know the name of a company I can contact to have a child's book bound in hardback?
I look forward to seeing everyone on the 16th!
Mary D.

Thanks for doing this Mary! What a great idea. I know someone who once had a book bound through i photo... but that was obviously more like a photo book.
I just finished a great memoir this weekend (The Tender Bar by J.R. Moehringer)and couldn't help but think of you all...
This quote deepened my understanding of the failing forward expression that's been ringing in my ears the last few days..."The idea that errors were stepping stones to truth never once occured to me..." (314)
I liked this one too and likened it to our time together: "the first step in learning, I decided, was unlearning, casting off old habits and false assumptions" (327)
It's an awesome book if anyone is looking for a quick summer read.
Thanks for organizing this Mary!
Michelle gave us a great tip for keeping receipts and expenses. I stopped at Staples and purchased items to make a record book like hers. Thanks, Michelle!
It is great to share ideas and learn from each other. I look forward to seeing everyone in few weeks.

Hi STARRS!
Thanks Mary D for creating this for us!
I'm still at a loss for words to describe how wonderful our first meeting was. I never imagined something so wonderful would happen so quickly. I can't wait to see what the next year brings.
Courtney's quotes sum it up very well! Personally, I am looking forward to unlearning to learn.
See you all on the 16th!
From Courtney: "...casting off old habits and false assumptions." Very powerful! We all have our routines that work for us, but I am guilty of keeping routines even though something else might work better or more efficiently. As for false assumptions, it is easy to fall into the trap of misjudging others (or programs, curricula, etc.) based on an ititial impression. I'm going to make a conscious effort to give things the "rule of three" to try to overcome some of that.
Mary, thanks for giving us all a place to communicate! For book publishing, try Nationwide Learning, Inc. I've heard they are good. See you all soon!
